BattoTV vs YouTube Kids: an honest comparison for parents
The short answer: YouTube Kids is free and can be set to show only videos you approve. BattoTV is a paid service (after 14 days free) that adds ready video Picks by age, allowed viewing hours, breaks, Focus and control from your phone, in one place.
If YouTube Kids already works well for your family, you may not need BattoTV. If you want more help with choosing videos and managing time, BattoTV may suit you better.
What each one is
YouTube Kids is Google's free app for children. It has its own library of videos for children, and parent settings such as age groups, a timer, turning search off, and an “Approved content only” mode.
BattoTV is a parent-controlled children's video service for families in Sri Lanka. It helps parents choose YouTube videos and organise viewing around their child's age, interests and daily routine. It plays videos marked “made for kids” in YouTube's own player. It is an independent service, not owned or endorsed by YouTube or Google.

Where YouTube Kids works well
- It is free.
- It has its own apps for phones, tablets and many TVs.
- It has a very large library.
- “Approved content only” lets you choose every video, if you have time to set it up.
Where BattoTV helps
- Ready Picks by age, so you don't start from nothing. Preview and switch off anything.
- Allowed hours and breaks for each child, like 4 to 7:30 pm with a 10-minute break.
- Your phone is the remote: give 15 more minutes, pause, or end a break early, even from work.
- Focus: only phonics, or only songs, for as long as you choose.
- Kind endings: the video finishes first, then a friendly screen shows when watching comes back.
- Made for Sri Lanka: pay by bank transfer, WhatsApp help in Sinhala and English.
BattoTV's limits
We want you to choose with the full picture:
- Ads can still appear. BattoTV does not add ads. YouTube may show ads in its player, and creators may include sponsorships or toy promotions inside their videos. We cannot remove those.
- It is not free. After 14 days free, it costs Rs690 a month or Rs4,990 a year.
- The library is smaller than YouTube Kids, because videos are chosen.
- It needs the internet, like YouTube.
- It does not block other apps or websites on the device. It manages watching inside BattoTV.
- “Made for kids” is one check. Parents should still look at their child's choices.

Which should you choose?
- Choose YouTube Kids if you want a free app, you are happy to set it up yourself, and a timer is enough.
- Try BattoTV if you want videos already chosen for their age, set viewing hours and breaks, and want to give more time or pause from your phone.
- Not sure? Try BattoTV free for 14 days, side by side with what you use now. No card needed.
